Anne Schuchman is a writer, translator, and teacher based in Rutherford, New Jersey. Her work moves between creative nonfiction and literary translation, with a particular focus on Italian women writers and Sardinian folktales.
Her nonfiction has appeared in The Massachusetts Review, Chicago Story Press, Saranac Review, The Write Launch, Apricity Press, and elsewhere. Her literary translations of Grazia Deledda's fiction and folktales have been published in The Southern Review, The Los Angeles Review, The Ilanot Review, The Queens Review, and The Journal of Italian Translation. A translation of Michela Murgia's "Miracolo" is forthcoming in World Literature Today.
She holds a PhD in Italian Studies from New York University and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction and Literary Translation from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and is a 2026 recipient of an Independent Artist Finalist Award from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. A Fulbright alum and 2025 Bread Loaf Translators' Conference scholarship recipient, she is currently working on a series of interconnected essays on grief and place, and on a book-length translation of Grazia Deledda's folktales.
